Does POSitouch Integrate With QuickBooks?
Yes, you can integrate POSitouch with QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, Xero, Sage Intacct and NetSuite using Autymate. POSitouch is the on-premise restaurant point of sale Shift4 has owned since 2018, run from each store's back-office PC. Autymate builds the connection around how your POSitouch stores share their data and posts each store's day as its Sales Journal Report shows it, with Major Categories, comps, each tax, card tips, house charges and paid outs on their own lines.
Connects to
- QuickBooks Online
- QuickBooks Desktop
- Xero
- Sage Intacct
- NetSuite
- and 300+ more systems
POSitouch's own documentation describes reports and data files, not an accounting export. Each store's PosDriver, the back-office computer, runs POSitouch, and the Sales Journal Report can be viewed, printed or sent to a file from RDC Navigator (Shift4's help centre, January and September 2026). Restaurant365, MarginEdge and Avero each install software at the store to read it; the one cloud route we found, Shift4's Marketplace, serves listed partners at stores on Shift4 processing (checked October 31, 2026).
So the Sales Journal reaches the books by hand or through a connector, and the connector decides which accounting systems a group can use. Autymate takes the same lines into whichever system holds each store's books, store by store, with nothing re-keyed.
How POSitouch Data Leaves a Store: Three Documented Routes
POSitouch keeps each store's day on the store's own PosDriver, so anything that reads it starts there. These are the three ways out that Shift4 and the partners who read POSitouch document today, and what each one asks of the store.
| Route | What it carries | What the store needs | Who documents it |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Sales Journal Report, sent to a file | The day by Major Category, with taxes, tips, tenders and Deposits | RDC Navigator, the POSitouch back office, on the store's PC | Shift4's help centre (January 2026) |
| DBF output files on the PosDriver | Check, item, menu and name tables that POSitouch writes out | Software on the back-office PC, left on and online; file output problems go to the dealer | Restaurant365 and Yellow Dog Software (2026) |
| Shift4's Marketplace | The previous business day, once a day, for listed partners | Shift4 payment processing at the store | 7shifts' help centre (May 2026) |
Which route Autymate uses for your stores is agreed at Connect.
POSitouch Sales Journal Lines and Where Each One Belongs
A POSitouch store's day is settled on its Sales Journal Report. Each line below keeps the name POSitouch uses, beside the account it usually lands on and what a wrong placement does to the numbers you read.

| In POSitouch | Where it belongs | What it costs you when it is wrong |
|---|---|---|
| What the store earned | ||
| Major Categories (Sales Journal Report) | Food, beer, wine and liquor sales, each on its own income account | Booked as one sales figure, the bar's share of Saturday can't be read, so beverage cost has nothing to be measured against |
| Comps and discounts | Their own contra-sales accounts, against the category they reduced | Netted into sales, a manager's comps never show up as a cost anyone reviews at month end |
| Owed to government and staff | ||
| Tax 1 to Tax 4 | Each slot on the payable account for the tax it holds | A store can change a slot's rate in its back office; one combined tax figure then hides which rate the return should use |
| Card tips | Tips payable, cleared when servers are paid | Counted as sales, tips inflate revenue and come back as an expense; left out, the day is short by the tips |
| Owed to the store | ||
| House charges | Accounts receivable, by customer if you track balances | Booked as cash, a catering order reads as paid on the night it was served |
| How the money arrived | ||
| Card payments (Sales Journal with Deposits) | Card clearing, until each Shift4 or processor deposit lands | Posted straight to the bank, the card total runs ahead of the money and the bank statement never agrees with the books |
| Cash, from Drawer Totals and Server Cashout Totals | Undeposited cash, then the bank when the deposit is made | Mixed with card totals, a short drawer disappears inside a figure no one checks against the deposit slip |
| Paid out, or corrected later | ||
| Paid outs | The expense account for each reason | Without an account, cash for an ice delivery looks like cash missing from the drawer |
| Transaction Manager adjustments after the batch | Corrected in the Sales Journal first, then posted | Left only in Shift4, a tip or refund changed next day never reaches the books or payroll |
One POSitouch Saturday, Sales Journal to Deposit
Kingsbury ran its Saturday Sales Journal Report with Deposits: $6,590.00 across four Major Categories, a $78.00 manager comp on food, food taxed in Tax 1 at 7% and alcohol in Tax 3 at 9%, and $918.00 in card tips. A $240.00 catering order went on a house charge, and $52.00 left the drawer for an ice delivery.

|---|---|---|
| Food | Sales: Food | $4,286.00 |
| Beer | Sales: Beer | $702.00 |
| Wine | Sales: Wine | $538.00 |
| Liquor | Sales: Liquor | $1,064.00 |

| Tip added after the batch, not in the Sales Journal | Nowhere yet | $15.00 |
$15.00 apartShift4 says an adjustment to a previous day's batch "must be manually adjusted in the Sales Journal in POSitouch". Until then, tips payable reads $918.00 against Shift4's $933.00, and one server's $15.00 is missing from payroll | ||
- Tip added in Transaction Manager, not in the Sales Journal

- Tips payable short by
- $15.00
Correct the Sales Journal in POSitouch, as Shift4 asks, and Autymate can be set up to read Saturday again with the $15.00 included, so tips payable and payroll agree on what each server is owed.
Until the processor funds the batch, $6,388.41 sits in card clearing and $1,251.51 in undeposited cash. Have a Sales Journal Report from one of your stores? See how your POSitouch days would post.
Sample figures. Kingsbury charges Tax 1 on food after the comp and Tax 3 on beer, wine and liquor, the slots Shift4's help centre describes as most common for each. Card tips are paid through payroll, so none left the drawer. Some POSitouch setups total tax on discounts, which changes gross and net sales; the mapping follows how your stores are set. Card fees are left out because they arrive on each processor's terms.
Where POSitouch Data Can Go
A POSitouch group's stores can belong to more than one company, and the companies don't always keep books in the same system. One approved mapping serves every store, and each store's Sales Journal day lands wherever that store's books are kept.
- QuickBooks Online
- Each POSitouch store's Saturday as one journal entry, Major Categories on your income accounts and the store as a location or class. QuickBooks Online integrations
- QuickBooks Desktop
- Company files kept on Desktop receive the same POSitouch mapping, so a store's day reads alike whichever edition holds it. QuickBooks Desktop integrations
- Xero
- Each POSitouch store as an option under a Location tracking category, so Major Category sales and each tax slot's payable read store by store in Xero's reports. Accounting integrations
- Sage Intacct
- A POSitouch store becomes a location inside the entity of the company that owns it, and each tax slot it uses posts to its own payable. ERP integrations
- NetSuite
- Stores under the subsidiary that owns them, with POSitouch card payments held in clearing per store until Shift4 or another processor funds the batch. ERP integrations
How POSitouch Connects
Every part of a POSitouch day is already on the Sales Journal Report or in the files POSitouch writes. Which one Autymate reads is agreed with you, and with your dealer if POSitouch's file output needs setting up.

Output files on the back-office PC
Output filesPOSitouch writes DBF tables on the PosDriver as each day is processed. Read there, they carry the day's checks, items and names, store by store.
A route agreed with Shift4
Shift4 routeFor stores on Shift4 processing, Shift4's Marketplace passes the previous business day to listed partners once a day. Whether it can serve your stores is settled with Shift4 for your account.
For your IT or accounting team: the technical detail
- The PosDriver comes first
- Shift4's help centre notes that terminals and card readers "cannot come back online until the PosDriver is fully operational" (September 2026). The same PC holds the day's reports and output files, so a store's day is read once its PosDriver is running and its end of day has closed.
- Report windows
- POSitouch's reports and third-party extracts run through the same programs, and Avero notes that a report window left open on the PosDriver can stop its extract from running.
- Output files, not a database
- POSitouch writes its DBF tables as outputs (Yellow Dog Software's help; a reply on the Tek-Tips forum, 2018: "they are output files"), so a reader depends on the day's output having run.
- Gross and net
- Avero notes that "some POSiTouch configurations total taxes on discounts", which shifts gross sales against net. The comps and taxes are mapped to match each store's own setting.
- Sales by Major Category
- POSitouch groups items into Major Categories, with discounts and taxes on their own lines; Restaurant365 reads the category names from the store's Names.dbf file.
Restaurant365 or Autymate for POSitouch?
A single POSitouch store whose bookkeeper keys each day from the Sales Journal may need nothing more. The table sets out what each option says about itself; the list with it is what a group of stores tends to add.

- POSitouch stores and SkyTab or Aloha stores on one chart of accounts
- Autymate's team on every run, with any line it can't place held for your decision

MarginEdge also reads POSitouch each morning, for cost control rather than as the books, and its help notes it cannot connect to two or more on-premise POS systems, naming Aloha and POSitouch among them (August 2026).

POSitouch is set up store by store: each one has its own Major Category names, its own tax slots and its own back-office PC. A group needs every one of those stores to read the same way in the books.
One Mapping for Every POSitouch Store.
Your accountant approves one mapping template for the group. A store that calls its category "Bar" where the others say "Liquor" is mapped to the same account through an approved location-level adjustment. Each Store's Tax Slots Read as That Store Set Them.
Tax 2 can be a city rate at one store and a lower food rate at another, because each store sets its own slots in its back office. Each slot is mapped per store to the payable account for the tax it actually holds.Stores Held by Separate Companies.
Each store lands in its own company, or its own location or class in one company, so a store owned by a different company never shares a set of books by accident.POSitouch Beside SkyTab, Aloha or Another POS.

How POSitouch Setup Works
Most of the work is agreeing where each Sales Journal line belongs. After that, each store's closed day posts through the route chosen at Connect, and nobody types a total from the printed report.
Connect
We confirm what each store can provide, the Sales Journal Report sent to a file, its output files or a route Shift4 offers for your account, then connect each store's accounting system.
Map
Your bookkeeper and our team place every Major Category, comp, tax slot, tip line, house charge account, tender and paid out reason, store by store.
Validate
One closed day from one store is posted and tied line by line to that day's Sales Journal Report with Deposits.
Automate
Once a store's end of day closes in POSitouch, its Sales Journal day posts on the schedule you choose.
Monitor
Each run is watched by Autymate's team. A store that traded but sent no day is flagged. A Sales Journal day that won't balance, a Tax 1 to Tax 4 slot or paid out reason with no account, or a store whose connection has stopped is held for your decision, with the reason and what to check, and support is on hand.
Decide this before anything is built
One entry per store or one per Major Category; gross sales with comps on their own line, or net; one receivable account for house charges or one per customer; and which tax each store's slots hold. These four answers shape every posted day; change one after go-live and the days already in the books are re-posted on the new choice.
What we need from you
- A manager at each store who can run the Sales Journal Report in RDC Navigator
- Each store's back-office PC left on and online, if the agreed route reads files there
- Your POSitouch dealer's contact, only if file output needs setting up
- Access to QuickBooks, Xero, Sage Intacct or NetSuite
- Someone to review the first week's postings
What a POSitouch Integration Looks Like in Autymate
Every store's closed day becomes one run. You see what posted and what waits.
Autymate turns each store's closed POSitouch day into one run. Your team sees every store in one list: what posted, what is held and why, and any store that sent nothing, which is flagged and posts once its data arrives. Held items wait for your decision while the rest of the day posts. Every run keeps its mapping version and a log of each step, and Autymate's team monitors the runs.

POSitouch Integration FAQs
Yes, you can integrate POSitouch with QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop using Autymate. POSitouch is the on-premise restaurant point of sale Shift4 has owned since 2018. Autymate builds the connection around how your POSitouch stores share their data and posts each store's business day as its Sales Journal Report shows it, with Major Categories, comps, each tax, card tips and house charges on their own lines. Xero, Sage Intacct and NetSuite work the same way.
Yes. The edition is chosen store by store, so a store whose company file is on QuickBooks Desktop and a store on QuickBooks Online take the same approved POSitouch mapping, and a Major Category lands on the same income account in both. A store that later moves its books from Desktop to Online can be set up to post there from an agreed date.
Not a public one. We found no open POSitouch API documented, checked October 31, 2026. The documented ways out of a store are the Sales Journal Report sent to a file, the DBF output files on the back-office PC and, for stores on Shift4 processing, Shift4's Marketplace for listed partners. Autymate builds the connection around what your stores can provide and agrees the route with you at Connect.
Shift4. Shift4 announced on February 6, 2018 that it was buying POSitouch, with Restaurant Manager and Future POS, and said the brands would keep competing independently. POSitouch was built in Warwick, Rhode Island and sold by Restaurant Data Concepts since the mid-1980s. Shift4's help centre still publishes POSitouch support articles, updated as recently as September 2026.
It stays in Shift4 until someone records it in POSitouch. Shift4's help centre says changes to a previous day's batch made in Transaction Manager must be adjusted by hand in the Sales Journal, or the two disagree. Once that is done, Autymate can be set up to post the refund against the original day, or on the day it was made if that month is closed, as your accountant decides.
Then that store's day may be incomplete or missing. Avero warns that a day not closed in POSitouch "can result in missing data", and Restaurant365 needs the store's PC to "remain powered and connected to the internet" to read it. Either way the fix is at the store: close the day in POSitouch, or start the PC. Until then that store is flagged, and its day posts once it arrives.
Yes. The accounts stay put when the point of sale changes. A store that moves from POSitouch to SkyTab on the 15th posts days 1 to 14 from POSitouch and the rest from SkyTab, to the same sales, tax payable and tips payable accounts, so its month reads as one store. SkyTab's categories and taxes are mapped to those accounts before the switch, and an Aloha store in the group is mapped the same way.
Shift4 doesn't say. Its help centre describes a QuickBooks Online app for locations where "Shift4 Dine is active" (September 2026) and names no POSitouch setting for it (checked October 31, 2026), so ask Shift4 or your dealer before planning on it. That app covers QuickBooks Online only; Autymate also posts POSitouch days to QuickBooks Desktop, Xero, Sage Intacct and NetSuite.
Both depend on how many POSitouch stores you run, how many companies own them, what each store can send and where its books live, so they come out of scoping. Weigh it against keying the Sales Journal every day: re-keying sales took one 15-store Jimmy John's franchisee 40 hours a week before Autymate. Bring one store's Sales Journal Report with Deposits and the scope is drawn from your own lines.
Autymate holds a SOC 2 Type II report. Access to POSitouch data is the access you grant, by the route agreed at Connect. Every run is logged, and each posted entry carries a reference back to its POSitouch business day, so a controller can trace any line in the books to the store and the Sales Journal day it came from.
